Episode Transcription

The first time I told a personal story on stage, it was an accident. I put my name in a hat. I was being moral support for a friend. And before I knew it, I was standing in front of 250 people telling them about a love triangle I was in.

It was terrifying. But then afterwards I thought, wait, this is an incredible way to connect and tell the truth and find out about people. And it launched this decade-plus journey of studying storytelling, telling stories of my own, and teaching the skill to thousands of people worldwide.

And you know what I've found? Along the way, people are desperate to know how to tell better stories, but they get hung up on things like story structure and wondering why someone would even care, or how to be authentic but not too authentic, where you overshare and end up in the fetal position with an emotional hangover texting “I'm sorry” to everyone you hung out with in the night before. Hypothetically.

I'm Micaela Blei, and if you've ever experienced any kind of block from the kind of connection or impact you want to make, come listen to my new podcast called The Story Letter. It's all about how to tell better stories. In this first season, we're covering how to tell a personal story from idea to execution. You'll learn easy to use frameworks and concepts that you can apply to writing memoirs, crafting marketing emails, or just knowing what to say when someone says, “So, tell me about yourself.”

Because creating story structure and finding your voice doesn't have to be complicated. You can be yourself and connect with your audience without emotional hangovers or shame spirals. I'll show you how. And when we're done, you can take this skill everywhere.

Subscribe to The Story Letter today. Because I think if you can tell a great story, there's no limit to where you can go.
